What Can Safari Plumbing Do To Reduce Water Usage In My Ottawa Home And At The Same Time Reduce The Amount Of Money I Pay On My Ottawa Water Bill?

Ottawa Water Conservation

There has been a lot of talk lately about water conservation in the city of Ottawa and reducing our footprint on the earth, and locally in our communities of Ottawa, Kanata, Barrhaven, Stittsville, and Orleans. “Green” plumbing is now the new buzzword in the plumbing contracting industry and it appears that manufacturers and contractors like Ottawa’s Safari Plumbing are getting on the bandwagon. New water saving products are being constantly introduced where function and conservation meet style.

There are many ways to conserve water in your Ottawa home and as one of Ottawa’s leading plumbing contractors, we will list and explain the more simple ones here.

Water Efficient Shower Heads

We recommend replacing your existing 2.5 gallon per minute (GPM) showerheads with more water efficient showerheads. Today, many companies are designing and manufacturing showerheads that use as little as 1.5 GPM which save approximately 40 percent more water than a standard showerhead flowing at 2.5 GPM. These manufacturers have gone to great lengths to ensure that their low-flow showerheads don’t feel “low-flow” to the user. The new low-flow showerheads have been re-designed to increase the velocity of the water streams hitting the body, treating users to a full, enveloping spray. The user receives a satisfying spray while substantially able to reduce water usage.

Low-flow Toilets

Replace your existing water guzzling toilets with new six-litre low flow toilets. Today’s six-litre toilets are achieving performance ratings unheard of years ago. Many of the older 13 litre toilets could never match the flushing performance of the new high performance six-litre toilets. If your existing toilet doesn’t flush completely on the first flush and leaves solids behind, or your toilet blocks continuously, then you should be replacing that toilet with a new high performance six-litre toilet.

Faucet Aerators

Another great idea we have at Safari Plumbing to reduce your water consumption is to replace your standard faucet aerators (the bubbler on the end of your faucet) with low flow faucet aerators. Standard aerators use as much as 2.2 GPM while the new high-efficiency aerators can reduce that amount of water by 30 percent or more to as low as 1.0 GPM.

Hot Water Recirculation System

Finally, install a hot water recirculation system in your home. Properly designed and easy-to-maintain systems are now available for retrofit applications in older homes. These systems keep the hot water moving in the piping toward all the fixtures resulting in less water being flushed down the drain from waiting for the hot water to arrive at the faucet. They can really save you water; for instance, if you cut the wait time of the hot water to a shower by as long as three minutes, that could equate to well over five gallons per shower saved. This is most likely a task where you’d want to involve an Ottawa area plumber. Remember Safari Plumbing services Ottawa, Kanata, Orleans, Stittsville, and Glocester!

“Green” plumbing is here to stay and those homeowners who incorporate water conservation measures within their home will reap the benefits of lower water bills and the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to sustain the earth’s dwindling water resources.
